Customize Firefox with userChrome.css

31 08 2006

Lifehacker: “Edits to your Firefox profile’s userChrome.css file can make all sorts of fun and useful changes to the fox’s chrome, menus, dialogs and toolbars.

For instance, I’ve disabled the Forward, Back and Stop buttons unless there’s something to go back or forward to or stop, I’ve made the bookmarks toolbar multi-row to display all my ‘marks, and included the bookmark keyword to the Add Bookmark dialog. And this is just a few examples of what can be done. After the jump, find out how…. Link “

29 08 2006

Lifehacker: “The OpenBook Firefox extension lets you tweak the default Add Bookmark dialog, giving you more control over the specifics of your bookmarks.

You can choose to add an entry for a keyword, URL, and description, and you can also choose where bookmarks go by default. The ‘tweak’ includes some simple registry editor edits, and takes about 60 seconds. This is a nice way to add some functionality to something that was just sitting there on my desktop. What are your best My Computer tips? Thoughts to comments or to tips at lifehacker.com. — Wendy Boswell
