OS X only: Freeware application RCDefaultApp adds a dialog to your
system preferences to help set the default applications for all sorts
of file types as well as you default web browser, email, etc.
On top of that, RCDefaultApp lets you configure what happens when
you insert or connect removable media – like digital cameras or DVDs -
to your Mac. Granted, you can change a file type’s default application
through the specific file’s info, but this offers a nice way to manage
and look at all of your default apps on a whole, along with a lot more
advanced functionality. RCDefaultApp is freeware, Mac OS X only. — Adam Pash
