1 04 2008

Boing Boing:

“Watchpeanuts is a fantastic concept drawing from Evan of DeviantArt, a
graphic answer to the age-old question, “What if Charles Schulz created
the Watchmen?”

Every issue of Elfquest free — oldest independent comic goes online

20 03 2008

This was a great comic…

Boing Boing:

“I just found out that my favorite comic series of all time, Elfquest,
has announced an initiative to celebrate their 30th anniversary,
wherein, by the end of the year, EVERY issue ever will be available
online for free.

It’s hard to describe it, but it’s an amazing body of work. It was
one of the first independently published comics in the world and one of
the most successful. The core story is about a group of elves from
outer space who ride wolves - it sounds crazy when I say it, you just
have to read it.

This is a 30 year old universe (older than me!) so there are spinoffs
and side-stories and rarities that even I, as a hard-core fan, have
never gotten to read. And soon I will be able to enjoy every single
shred of it. For free. Just ‘cuz.

The internet is beyond words in its capacity to make me happy.”

New Iron Man Trailer - Now More Rockin’

29 02 2008

OK, now I’m even more pumped…

i09: “Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow have an even spicier relationship in Iron Man
than we’d expected, judging from this newly released trailer. And the
use of AC/DC lets us know this movie will have big balls. (Sorry,
couldn’t resist.) More importantly, the new trailer gives us a way
clearer sense of the movie’s arc.

We get a nice clear view of the three phases of Iron Man armor
in the movie: crude, medium crude, and shiny. Also, we’ll definitely
get the full storyline from the comics about Tony Stark’s pride, and
then remorse, about being a weapons maker. It looks as though his
change of heart is what turns his mentor Obadiah Stane into his
arch-enemy Ironmonger.”

The Bible as Graphic Manga Novel, With a Samurai Stranger Called Christ

11 02 2008

I have to say, I never thought I’d use these two tags together….

Digg: “Ajinbayo Akinsiku wants the world to know Jesus Christ, just not the
gentle, blue-eyed Christ of old Hollywood movies and illustrated
Bibles. Mr. Akinsiku says his Son of God is “a samurai stranger who’s
come to town, in silhouette,” here to shake things up in a new version
of the Bible rooted in manga, the Japanese form of graphic novels.”

Scifi Wire:

“Heath Ledger, who plays the Joker in the upcoming Batman movie The Dark Knight,
was found dead on Jan. 22 in a Manhattan residence in a possible [sleeping pill]-related death, police told the Associated Press. He was 28.

NYPD spokesman Paul Browne told the AP that Ledger had an
appointment for a massage at the Manhattan apartment believed to be his
home. The housekeeper who went to let Ledger know the masseuse was
there found him dead at 3:26 p.m.

The Australian-born actor was an Oscar nominee for his role in Brokeback Mountain and has numerous other screen credits (The Patriot, A Knight’s Tale).

Ain’t It Cool News reported that Ledger had completed the role of the villainous Joker in the upcoming Batman Begins sequel, directed by Christopher Nolan, which is slated to open in July.

Dark Horizons said that Ledger had been shooting The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus in the United Kingdom for director Terry Gilliam as recently as the weekend. No word on how it will be affected.”

XKCD Inadvertantly Causes Googlebomb

13 01 2008

Slashdot: “As I noted yesterday (and was joined by many others.), In a off hand observation xkcd has single handedly changed a small section of the internet. Changing the results from a google search for “Died in a Blogging Accident” from 2 to at this writing over 7,170 in a little more than 24 hours.”

If you aren’t reading xkcd, you’re missing out.

Ninjas attack Richard Stallman, reenacting xkcd comic

22 10 2007

Boing Boing:

“Yale students dressed as ninjas staged a mock attack on Free Software
Foundation founder Richard Stallman last week, reenacting a great
installment from xkcd, a fantastic webcomic. Stallman came to Yale to
give a talk on DRM at the debating society, and confronted the ninjas
“with good humor and grace.”
